Favorite Sunset SkyFire (IOS) Sent You Chasing?

On this night we met incoming clients in Stovepipe Wells, expecting to shoot sunset on the Mesquite Flat sand dunes nearby.

SkyFire predicted a high probability of sunset color in Badwater Basin, but not at Mesquite Flat. So in spite of everyone having just driven in, we drove about 45 minutes and witness this spectacle unfold.

We heard the next day that there were no clouds, and there was no color over the sand dunes.

Luck favors the well-prepared!

Landscape photography being an inherently “in the moment” activity, we’re always looking to ditch our anticipated plans to upgrade to a better opportunity. That approach has paid off for us over and over again.

I was at work checking skyfire, but the entire day it’d been overcast with no sun poking through and was having trouble believing it would pan out. I debated going or not going and in the end decided to take a chance and last minute drove to a short trail close to my home. I’m so glad I did.
