I’m trying to figure out how “camera gear” works in the new web version.
I see that green view that comes up on screen when I activate camera gear, but it comes up showing the angle(s) on the red pin which is the location. I’m not sure how that helps me if I’m trying to photograph the location. If I place say the grey pin where I would be shooting from, shouldn’t the angles be shown pointing from the grey pin to the red pin?
Perhaps I’m using this wrong and as you can see, need some help.
Thank you
Hi @Aptillie – welcome! Good question, and you’re correct that for shots where the sun is out of the frame and illuminating the subject, it would be better for the FOV green triangle to display from the grey pin. That’s an enhancement I have planned for the future (soon, hopefully).
That said, if it’s sunlight you’re worried about, unless you’re shooting over great distances, you could just swap the pins and it won’t make too much impact on the results.
For cases where the sun, moon, planet or DSO is in the shot, then showing the field of view from the red pin is correct (those sort of shots represent the majority of the use cases that TPE users are interested in, I think).
If you’d like any further clarification, please post a screenshot or send a shot plan link (lower right hand corner share button will give you this) and I can review.

Hi Stephen,
Your first statement is correct and I can certainly wait for when the program is updated. That is the way I would use the pins and FOV as you explained so I can get that view from where I stand to the subject.
This new web version is terrific
Thank you
