Corona simulation

This may be of interest to those planning on the eclipse and especially those hoping to photograph the outer corona. There is a new eclipse simulation being published which attempts of model the shape and extent of the corona and its streamers in near-real time. This is showing that because we are near solar maximum the magnetic activity is more evenly and randomly distributed, which will tend to make the corona more radially symmetrical, like petals on a flower. So at long focal lengths it may be more prone to being cut off by the short side of the camera frame.

This is on the Predictive Science website.

Useful tip, thanks Dave.

They kindly gave permission to me to use their corona images in the Photo Ephemeris simulator yesterday, but it’s a little too late to start making changes now. Maybe next eclipse!
