Disable automatic shift to 3D when zooming in?

Hello,

Is it possible to disable the automatic shift to 3D when zooming in?

Thomas

Hi Thomas - are you asking about the 45 degree imagery on Google Maps, or something else? Please let me know.

Hi Stephen,

Yes, when I open a location and zoom in beyond a certain level, Google Maps (satellite) automatically switches to 3D:

Got it - yes, that’s rather annoying and there’s no documented API to disable that behaviour (I’ve tried multiple times in the past to find one).

Strangely, Google announced last August that they were discontinuing the 45° imagery in Google Maps, but it still seems to be hanging around.

The web app is currently using version ā€˜3.62.13e’ and per Google’s documentation, there should no longer be any 45° imagery, so I’m a little puzzled.

I’ll see if I can learn more about why it’s still showing up.

Thanks!

Yes, it is still going to 45 degree view when you zoom in on an area that has the data for it. But you can turn it off by using this toggle on the TPE Web interface toward the lower right corner:

Once I toggle it to the off position, it seems to stay off even if I zoom back out or leave that location and zoom back in later. But I don’t know how long it stays that way before it reverts back to the default behavior.

That’s what I’m doing – turning it off. The problem is that I have to do that every time I search for a location and zoom in.

I am finding that it remains off as long as I am just zooming in and out and other things, but I see that after doing a search or using one of my saved Locations the ā€œoffā€ status is canceled and it is back. I don’t see any way to turn it off permanently.

It’s the same here. As long as I stay on the map and don’t search or open saved locations, it stays off.
