Thanks to everyone who completed our weather survey. And double thanks to all of you who expressed an interest in joining the Photo WX User Group!
Welcome - you’ve found it
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes over the last few months to start building out weather functionality that will complement the natural light data the Photo Ephemeris has long specialized in.
I’ll be posting further details here and would love to get your reactions, feedback, questions and suggestions.
While we’re not going to be launching our own satellites or building out a supercomputer to run our own weather model any time soon, I see three main areas where we can do more for photographers in terms of weather data:
- Improved user experience: many websites provide a ton of data, but the UI leaves something to be desired (lots of clicking to move between times and forecasts, uncertainty over which time zone is being displayed)
- New specialized forecasts: there are opportunities to combine and reanalyze existing weather data to provide specialist forecasts to photographers (we’ll have some examples to share with you soon)
- Better visualization: sometimes, it’s difficult to visualize trends in weather data, or to relate it to times of day that really matter to photographers (e.g. sunrise, moonrise etc.)
In the meantime, please post away with your weather insights, questions and wish list - thanks for joining!
