Is there a quick way to determine - or visually display - how far into the future data is available for a given model run? Currently, I zoom out, select the model, and scroll through the timeline while watching the cloud display. It might be helpful to have a high-level day/date scrollbar, similar to the one used in Windy. Once a day is selected, the more detailed, granular scrollbar could then become active.
Hi @BSpeaks - the available range is currently displayed but it’s likely a bit too subtle:
I’m contemplating adding a date selector in association with some other planned enhancements to the site, so that might be a possibility too.
I could also include the start and end times of each forecast run in the tooltip in the run selection buttons.
Let me know what you think.
Thank you, Stephen. I had noticed that line but didn’t make the connection.
The second option sounds great. A few additional suggestions came to mind:
- Display the estimated time for the next model update.
- Allow users to click on a location to see the percentage of cloud cover there. It would be helpful to support this feature on both individual and multi-layer views.
- Enable importing favorite locations from PhotoEphemeris.
- I know models get less accurate the further out they go, but I still find Windy’s 15 day ECMWF really useful for getting a general feel for long-range weather and cloud trends. It’s really helpful for planning a trip. Any chance you’re planning to extend the forecast range?
Thank you,
Bill
