Here’s my contribution to the partial lunar eclipse photos from last night. I had marginal conditions, with high hazy clouds, sometimes opaque, alternating with somewhat clear, but never ideal conditions. This was taken right at midnight, 13 minutes before maximum eclipse coverage. Sky conditions deteriorated quickly after that and right at 12:13 a thunderstorm moved in, so I could not capture the restoration of the fully-illuminated moon.
Unlike most partial eclipse images with an overexposed sliver of illuminated moon, this is a blend of a couple exposures to retain the detail of the illuminated part.
I was at a particular location, planned in detail with TPE, with a goal of compositing different stages of the eclipse into their proper position in the sky in the 35 mm scenic view. Because of the intermittent sky blockage I may not have enough moon shots to do that. But since one of my 30-second foreground shots was illuminated like daylight by lightning, I’m going to try to do something with it!
