Visual Search Suggested Filters

Currently in the Filters section of Visual Search there is a collection of “Suggested” buttons:

Can I suggest (pun intended) that the "Near Sunrise/Sunset be split into separate “Sunrise” and "Sunset’? I know I can achieve the same thing by creating a location filter for the Sun, but it would be simpler to have a button to do that.

My use case is I want to frame the moon in a particular location near sunrise. So I am thinking in terms of “Moon” and “Sunrise”, but not “What quadrant will the Sun be in when the Moon is in the location I want”.

Hi @PeterEm - from memory (I’m on my phone), when you apply that filter, it simply affects the altitude of the Sun, so whether it’s set one way or the other makes no real difference.

Near sunrise or sunset a new moon will always be nearby and full moon more or less opposite in the sky - those are the constraints of the celestial geometry.

If you split the buttons up, we’d have to perform additional calculations strictly speaking, but I don’t think it would find any additional results.

However, if you have a specific example in mind please post it - maybe there are cases I haven’t fully thought through.

I’m not looking to find additional results, but to more easily exclude the ones that I don’t want. Because if I want something at sunrise, I don’t want to have to look through results from sunset. And as I said, I know that I could create an additional sun filter, but that means more work for me.

Could you post an example link of a search that gives you these results? That will help me understand the issue more clearly.

I would have thought you’d only possibly get a mix of sunrise and sunset shots for wide tolerance searches and only for moon azimuths towards the meridian.

But an example would be great!

Not to worry - I did some testing and see the issue with the mix of results from sunrise and sunset (not quite as I had it in my head). This should be an easy change to make. I’ll report back.

And here I was just about to create a test case! I look forward to the update!

@PeterEm - I’ve added these in 3.15.9, now in beta - let me know if this is what you’re looking for.

That is exactly what I’m looking for.

However, there is now a weird situation whereby a couple of my results are being duplicated (On Chrome)

I’m trying to figure out how to attach the CSV downloads for this search.

Hi Peter - that occasional duplication is a known issue that I’ve never quite got to the bottom of as yet. I’ll see if I can take another look in the next week or two. Glad the rest of it is looking OK.

OK. It’s not really an issue for me, but if you want the configuration that causes it I have the files.

That would be handy - all I’d need is the link, rather than the results. The URL includes all the Visual Search parameters, so I can just run it at my end and it should generate the same results as you see:

Here you go

Link to duplicate results

Thanks Peter - confirmed I see the same duplicate results.
