Cloud obstructions

Here’s a new addition to beta.wx.photoephemeris.com: cloud obstruction indicators. When you have cloud observability enabled (the ‘target’ button on the right of the map), in addition to the circles which show the max distance from which clouds of a certain height can be seen, we now show obstruction ‘zones’.

For low, medium and high clouds, we calculate the zones along the sightline to the Sun and/or Moon at which each cloud type can block the view.

If the forecast shows clouds of that type under that part of the line, then the Sun or Moon will likely be obstructed.

It’s probably best explained in pictures.

Clear Skies near sunset in Boulder, Colorado

High Cloud blocking sunset in Moab, Utah

High Cloud overhead, but not blocking Moonrise in Cleveland, Ohio

Would love some feedback if any one is able to give this a tryout.

The idea for this feature is really great! I will love it! I am already exited to use it for my landscape photograhy.
